Do Cannabis Buds Keep Ripening After You Cut Them?
Drying will change the bud you harvested. It won't give that bud the growing time you skipped.

Why
So here's the dilemma: the top buds look ready, but the lower buds still look young. Can you cut the whole plant and let the lowers catch up while they hang?
In one 2024 experiment, flowers given a mild wet trim tested at higher concentrations of several cannabinoids after six days of drying. That sounds like ripening. But the study measured concentration, not whether the cut buds kept growing or caught up with buds left on the plant.
Meanwhile, in a study of one cannabis variety, flowering shoots kept adding dry weight on the living plant even after cannabinoid concentration had peaked. How much flowering material you harvest and the percentage it tests at are two different things.
So make the harvest call while the buds are still on the plant. Check the trichome heads on the flowers at several spots, and assess the flowers' overall development. If the tops are ready but the lowers really need time, you can take the tops and leave the rest growing, then check again later. That's an option, not a guaranteed yield or potency boost.
After you cut, dry and cure for quality. Don't leave a bud hanging longer expecting another week of flower growth. A drying rack is not a second flowering tent. If it were, my harvest calendar would be a lot easier.
