Why Is My pH Dropping in DWC?
If your pH keeps dropping in DWC or RDWC, start with a reliable measurement.

Why
First, verify it. Clean and calibrate your pH meter according to its instructions, let the reservoir mix thoroughly, and wait for a stable reading. Don't add chemicals to chase a bad measurement.
A drift within your crop's range calls for monitoring; a rapid drop or a reading below that range needs prompt attention.
Next, review what went in. Did the drop start after nutrients, top-off water, or pH Down? Record those additions alongside pH, EC, and water level so you can see the sequence.
Here's why feeding can change pH. As roots take up nutrients, they maintain an electrical balance. Taking up ammonium nitrogen can make roots release hydrogen ions, which lowers pH. Nitrate uptake tends to push pH the other way.
Check your nutrient label for those nitrogen forms. They're clues, not a reason to change the formula blindly. EC indicates overall dissolved salts, not the balance of individual nutrients.
Microbes converting ammonium to nitrate can also produce acidity. That process alone doesn't mean disease.
Then check your water's buffering. Alkalinity is its capacity to neutralize acid. Low alkalinity doesn't create acid, but it lets added or produced acid move pH more easily. Starting pH cannot tell you that capacity. If drops keep recurring, test your source water's alkalinity and review the result with your nutrient supplier before changing the mix.
Inspect the root zone, too. Look for soft, deteriorating roots and wilting. Check water temperature and that air is actually reaching the reservoir. Those checks can reveal another problem needing attention; falling pH alone cannot diagnose root rot.
If the confirmed pH is below your crop's recommended range, add hydroponic pH Up in small amounts according to its directions. Mix thoroughly and retest before adding more.
Don't turn the reservoir into a pH ping-pong tournament.
Verify the reading. Correct what's out of range. Find what's driving the drop.
