Why

A cannabis seedling is ready for DWC when its roots and top growth are actively developing. With Rockwool, one of the easiest signs is roots growing out of the cube. Also look for true leaves that are open and actively growing, not just the smooth seed leaves called cotyledons. Other propagation media work too, because Rockwool is not the rule; root development is. Many seedlings reach this stage around two weeks after sowing, but that is only a rough guide. You do not need a huge root mass. Once the roots are established, true leaves are growing, and the seedling is developing normally, it is ready to make the move.

What to remember

  • Do not move a seedling based only on its age.
  • Look for established roots growing beyond Rockwool or another propagation medium.
  • Confirm true leaves are open and actively growing, not just cotyledons.
  • You do not need a huge root mass; established roots and normal development are enough.
  • Around two weeks is a rough guide, not a deadline.
  • Established roots, true leaves, and active growth are the green light for DWC.
